Britain declared Egypt an independent state following the Egyptian Revolution of 1919 which sought freedom from British occupation.

Control over foreign affairs, the army, communications, and the Sudan was reserved by Britain. The British declaration of independence for Egypt was a way of addressing the calls for independence whilst retaining the most important aspects of state sovereignty.
