War between Protestant and Catholic factions in Uganda

Tensions between Protestant and Catholic factions of Uganda erupted at the Battle of Mengo. Frederick Lugard, military administrator for the Imperial British East Africa Company in Uganda played a decisive role by providing the Protestant faction with military aid.

The Battle of Mengo resulted in a Protestant victory. This impacted the long-term social and political development of Uganda as Protestant chiefs assumed a privileged position in the new colonial order established by the British in the following years.
