Attlee informed Mounbatten that despite Mountbatten not being able to become Governor-General of Pakistan, his role in the same position for India would be looked on favourably by Indians and in Britain.
Attlee sought to reassure Mountbatten that becoming Governor-General of India would not ‘reflect on your impartiality’.
