Buganda land reform

Land reforms under the ‘Land Law’, ‘Succession Law’, and ‘Busuulu and Envujjo Law’ of 1927 prevented the emergence of large land estates and lowered rents and dues for land tenants.

These reforms sought to address problems arising from the mailo system in Buganda which was established by the Uganda Agreement of 1900. These reforms built on the Buganda Land Law of 1908.
