Independence of Northern Rhodesia

Much like other British colonies and protectorates in Africa, Northern Rhodesia went through a number of constitutional changes in order to prepare the country for independence. Elections were held in 1963 resulting in a coalition government of the Zambia African National Party under the leadership of Kenneth Kaunda and The Zambian African National Congress led by Harry Nkumbula. The coalition government with Kaunda as Prime Minister led, what would become Zambia, to independence.
