Buganda was the most powerful of the Ugandan kingdoms and was central to colonial-era developments. The kingdom was dissolved after Milton Obte’s military coup bringing a pause to the long history of Bugandan prominence in Ugandan political affairs.

The Bugandan monarchy was only restored in 1993 under the current President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni.
