Uganda Agreement of 1900

Commissioner of Uganda, Harry H. Johnston reached agreement with Buganda chiefs on taxes, private-land tenure, and continuity of the Buganda polity with the signing of the Uganda Agreement of 1900.

The British-backed Protestant chiefs of Buganda established a privileged position in the new colonial order. The Baganda chiefs were organised under the Lukiko (parliament), the Kabaka (king), and Katikkiro (prime minister).
