Berlin Conference

The Berlin Conference was organised by Chancellor Otto von Bismarck of Germany with the aim to establish an agreement amongst European states and the United States on the colonisation of Africa.

The Conference signalled a new phase in Western colonialism in which the African interior was the focus of European colonisation. This new phase is known as ‘New Imperialism’.
