All Asians leaving Uganda had to declare their assets

All Asians leaving Uganda had to declare their assets. Asians were only allowed to take £50 per head of family. This meant that Ugandan Asians were unable to transfer their funds out of the country.

John Fairhall reported, “the whole British Asian population are being stripped of all their assets and only verbal promises and uncertain procedures give them any hope whatever that they may see their assets again. They will arrive in Britain with their luggage and £50 a family and that may well be all.”
