The Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 criminalised slavery and the slave trade in the British Empire, with the exception of territories administered by the East India Company, including Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and St Helena.

The Act was the culmination of abolitionist activity in Britain that began in the 1780s.
